There are many ways to enjoy Liberty County, from the rich history of the "Liberty Trail", a unique driving tour offering many sites related to history, culture and ecology sites to more leisurely activities such as boating, fishing, crabbing, hunting, water skiing, canoeing or kayaking through marsh grasses.
Hinesville, the county seat, is one of the fastest growing cities in southeast Georgia. Our city is very desirable as a place to reside, do business or just have fun. It is a city full of friendly people, and because of its location near Fort Stewart, the largest military installation east of the Mississippi River, it is culturally and ethnically diverse. Liberty County is home to many famous Georgians like
Button Gwinnett and Lyman Hall, signers of the Declaration of Independence, to more recent citizens like Delisha Milton-Jones, forward for the Washington Mystics. She made her hometown of Riceboro proud when she became a member of the gold medal winning US Olympic team in 2000 and helped the USA team clinch another gold medal finish at the USA World Championships September 2002. She hasn't stopped there, she has gone on to earn the 2001 WNBA Champion title and continued her championship run in 2003 winning the Euro League Championship with team Ekaterinburg in Russia.
